Work at the Memorial site has been paused during the winter months. The last work was the installation of the limestone facings, claddings, and wall caps. The final granite plaques, to be placed atop the end pedestals, have been ordered and will be installed in early spring.

Contributions and brick purchases continue, although a good deal must be raised to complete the work.  Applications have been made for additional grants, and the results of those applications should be known within a month.

Perhaps the most touching news comes from two sixth graders at Baker Intermediate School, Walker Puckett and Colton Wilson.  These two young gentlemen, who raise and lower the flag at school each school day, took it upon themselves to raise funds for the Memorial and, within two weeks, raised nearly $3,000.  They used the funds to purchase one of the memorial benches and buy a memorial brick. 

We wish to thank Principal Josh Mounts and his staff for encouraging these young men and facilitating their efforts. Their names will be enshrined on a bronze plaque placed on the bench they purchased and on the two-star bronze donor plaque to be attached to one of the end pedestals.

The Clark County Veterans Council is deeply appreciative of these two young men’s efforts and dedication. They have demonstrated what can be accomplished with perseverance.
