Seven trees, representing the seven years of American involvement in the two wars, were recently planted at the memorial site.

Trees planted, granite plaques installed

More progress has been made toward completion of the memorial.

Trees were planted at the site during the week of July 14.  The city of Winchester will be watering them through the summer season.

An additional 81 engraved bricks were ordered in July, and orders continue to come in.  Approximately 280 spaces remain for engraved bricks.

The large black granite plaques, which rest atop each end pedestal—1,300 pounds each—have been placed.  The only work remaining on the plaza itself is completion of the limestone caps at the flagpole base.  All remaining work will be in front of the plaza, including placing the concrete walk, which will receive the engraved bricks, placement of the granite ground markers, and final landscaping.

We are still awaiting decisions regarding two outstanding grant applications.

The Council is anticipating a dedication of the completed memorial on Veterans Day in November.

The Winchester Sun printed a story about the tree planting: New trees highlight War Memorial development.
