Work nears completion but more funding is needed

Dee Birkes and Chuck Witt appeared before the Winchester Rotary Club on February 12th and were graciously received with recommendations for helping with the project.

In early March, we received word that our second attempt for a T-Mobile grant had not been approved, so fundraising in other directions continues.

The granite caps for the end pedestals are expected in mid-March. Once those are placed, the only major construction work remaining will be to set the last piece of limestone atop the flagpole base, place the benches, and pour the concrete walk, which is the base for placing the memorial bricks.

Following this, all remaining work will be landscaping, which includes bringing in additional topsoil and fill, placing the ground markers, laying the brick in the walk, and sodding.

The photos show the two memorial walls.  The engraving in the limestone was professionally completed, providing great emphasis to each wall.

Brick sales continue.

We are still hopeful for a dedication on Memorial Day.
