Work to resume next week

Following an early summer hiatus at the memorial, work is scheduled to resume on July 21, 2025, with the removal of the dirt mound at the site, grading behind the memorial wall, placement of the granite plaques on the end pedestals, completion of the flagpole base cap, and planting of the trees.

Following closely on this work will be the final grading of the front of the site, placement of the concrete walk to receive the brick pavers, placement of the granite markers, and sodding of the remaining portion of the site.

The City of Winchester has graciously agreed to periodically water the site to assure the survival of the trees and sod through the summer.

Fundraising efforts continue, with approximately $30,000 of work remaining.  Four grant applications have been submitted, with one denial.  The denial was based on a lack of funding available from the grantor, not a deficiency in the application. Notice of the remaining three is expected within the coming month.

Brick sales continue, with approximately 280 spots remaining.  A total of 284 bricks have been sold to date.

With an expected two months of work remaining, the Council is anticipating a dedication of the completed memorial on Veterans Day in November.
